ARC degassing agent
1. Product name
ARC degasser
II. Product Ingredients and Characteristics
ARC degasser is formed by uniformly mixing high-purity ammonium chloride (NH₄Cl) and then compressing it under high pressure, resulting in a dense cake-like block. The product contains no other additives and boasts high purity and uniform volatilization. When heated in aluminum melt, it decomposes, releasing ammonia (NH₃) and hydrogen chloride (HCl) gases. The ammonia further decomposes, producing hydrogen and nitrogen, forming a large number of dispersed bubbles. During their ascent, these bubbles adsorb dissolved hydrogen and fine inclusions in the melt, achieving efficient degassing. This product is particularly suitable for the production of aluminum alloy welding wires that require extremely high melt cleanliness, leaving behind minimal residues and introducing no additional impurity elements.
III. Applicable Scenarios
Specifically designed for degassing treatment during the melting process of aluminum alloy welding wires. Applicable to 1XXX, 4XXX, 5XXX series aluminum alloy welding wires, as well as other aluminum alloy products with strict requirements on hydrogen content.
IV. Dosage
Recommended dosage: For every 100 kg of aluminum liquid, use 50 g to 150 g of ARC degassing cake (equivalent to 0.1% to 0.3% of the aluminum liquid's mass). The typical recommended value is 0.2%. The specific dosage can be adjusted based on the initial hydrogen content of the melt and the quality requirements of the welding wire.
V. Usage
After the aluminum material is completely melted, adjust the temperature of the aluminum liquid to 710℃~730℃. Too low a temperature will result in poor degassing effect, while too high a temperature may lead to rapid decomposition of ammonium chloride and coarse bubbles.
Use a dedicated bell jar or graphite ladle to press the ARC degasser into the bottom of the melt and slowly move it around to ensure even dispersion of the decomposed gas. The complete decomposition of the degasser takes approximately 6-10 minutes. Once the bubbles have been released, remove the bell jar. Allow the mixture to stand for 5-10 minutes, allowing the bubbles to float up and carry out hydrogen and inclusions. Skim off the surface scum thoroughly before proceeding with wire casting or subsequent processing.
If the hydrogen content is required to be extremely low (such as aviation-grade welding wire), the above operation can be repeated once.
VI. Precautions
Ammonium chloride decomposes into ammonia and hydrogen chloride gas when heated. The operation should be conducted under good ventilation conditions, and it is recommended to equip with a local exhaust system. Operators should wear high-temperature resistant gloves, protective glasses, and dust masks to avoid direct contact with the decomposed fumes.
It is strictly prohibited to directly place the degassing cake onto the surface of the aluminum liquid. It must be pressed into the bottom to prevent rapid decomposition and subsequent splashing. The bell jar, after use, should be cleaned promptly to avoid moisture absorption and corrosion caused by residual ammonium chloride.
VII. Packaging specifications
The weight of each pressed block can be customized according to customer requirements (common specifications: 100 g/block, 200 g/block, 500 g/block). The packaging consists of moisture-proof sealed bags with an outer cardboard box.
VIII. Storage conditions
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, and strictly prevent moisture. Do not mix with acids, alkalis, oxidants, and flammable materials. Use as soon as possible after opening.
IX. Shelf life
12 months under unopened conditions. If the product becomes damp and exhibits surface softening or clumping, it should be discontinued for use.
